Lydia would not be participating in the school's upcoming trip. That sounded like entirely too much of boats for her nerves, thank you very much. Still, she could enjoy the food of Greece, and help everyone else get into the spirit, she had decided, and thus had selected a Greek restaurant in Baltimore for tonight's supper club. She hoped everyone wouldn't get too sick of delicious pita and such by the end of next week.

Lydia hoped the Supper Club was in the mood for seafood, because she was! And if Adrian didn't show up she would absolutely be smuggling some back for Mr. Boston, because she was a good friend.

Yes, the Supper Club had been here before, but Lydia had recently read something about it being the American author the tavern was associated with's birthday or somesuch, and, well, the tavern had gone over quite well the first time around. Nothing wrong with a little festive moment for someone you didn't even know!

So Lydia had sent the missives around, hoping they got to who they needed to get to, and now here she was, waiting for her friends to arrive.

The Supper Club would be doing something a bit different this week: visiting a local Christmas market! Lydia thought it sounded quite fun, with all sorts of interesting shopping and delicious treats. She hoped everyone would enjoy it, and weren't too stuffed from the island's latkes.

Autumn was shading into winter, when the daylight looked pale and sickly and it seemed to hurt the sun to rise for a few hours and a girl's thoughts naturally turned to wool. And soup.

This latter inclination had led Lydia to select Pho Pasteur for tonight's Supper Club. She was debating whether or not to get tripe. She hadn't had tripe in ever such a long time.

Lydia had had a hankering for Greek food for some reason, and had only realized upon arrival at Estiatorio Plaka that the Supper Club had been here previously.

This was why a witch needed a familiar who wasn't resident on some distant island, to keep up with this kind of thing for her.

Well. This was slightly embarrassing, since the goal of the Supper Club was to try new things, but she remembered the food being quite good, so it was probably fine. Welcome to Supper Club, everyone!

Lydia couldn't really have said why she'd selected the Annabel Lee Tavern for this week's Supper Club. It wasn't a type of cuisine they hadn't tried before, or anything like that, but something about it felt...appropriate.

Look, you couldn't not honor Poe in Baltimore at the height of spooky season. It would just be wrong.

Lydia assumed that Irish food was probably quite like English food, although perhaps with more potatoes, but who knew how that might have changed in the last two hundred years? Better to find out for oneself!

Thus, she had let the Supper Club attendees know to join her at Slainte Irish Pub & Restaurant on Thursday evening, and was now here herself, waiting for the others and wondering how on Earth one pronounced 'Slainte.'

Lydia had only remembered after making the arrangements for tonight's Supper Club that they had had Afghan food previously, but she was sure that wouldn't be a problem. They had new faces amongst them, after all, and maybe other people's memories were as bad as hers! At any rate, this was a different restaurant, and everything looked and smelled delicious.

Did Lydia know what an Oktoberfest was or that she was slightly early for the celebration of same? Not at all. She did know that they hadn't tried German food yet in the Supper Club, she wasn't a pony, and she had swapped over to one of her fall dresses. She was feeling rather positive about this whole experience and hoped nothing would happen to spoil it, such as suddenly not having thumbs again.

Surely not. They weren't even on the island.

Still, now that she had thought of it, she would fret. Thanks, Mrs. Bennet's DNA.

Lydia had seen a video on Korean barbecue, and it looked fun! Maybe with less alcohol than in the video. She didn't trust some of you not to catch yourselves aflame. But fun! So she had made inquiries of the tiny internet in her phone, and instructed the Supper Club to meet her this time in the suburbs of Baltimore for a Korean barbecue and hot pot dinner.

She didn't know what a hot pot was, actually. But she was looking forward to finding out.

Did Lydia know what an 'empanada' was? Well, she had seen a picture of one, and so understood that they were a sort of pasty or hand pie, but if she had known that previously (perhaps through one of Professor Raiden's classes), it had quite slipped her mind, and she was mostly preoccupied with hoping that this modern and apparently Peruvian variant was tastier and of higher quality than the ones she had occasionally eaten in Newcastle.

But then, the less said about Newcastle, the better.

Lydia was given to understand that nothing could be more quintessentially Maryland than eating crab by the water, so she had found a location to do so, since the island only provided a lobster-based option. There was even live music!

She had to admit she was a bit nervous about how many people would actually show up, given the rash of animal (and vegetable) transformations on the island at present, but she was soldiering on regardless. She was going to learn how to eat a crab! It was very exciting.

As with Charming Elephant previously, Lydia was bound to be disappointed by the lack of truth in advertising of Llamas' Corner. Where were the llamas? Oh, in the decor? They should be serving her London Fog latte.

Well. They were already here, and she supposed the place was quite charming, anyway. She did so hope nothing ill befell her dress; she seemed to be having the most rotten luck with that this week!

It was Lydia's twentieth birthday in a few days, which she very much doubted anyone remembered. She was trying very hard not to make a fuss about that, though it was very difficult. Look at her, maturing or something. Still, as the birthday girl she felt she was allowed a few liberties, such as moving Supper Club to the afternoon so they could have afternoon tea, a lovely English tradition she thoroughly predated but had been introduced to on the school trip to Canada. She did so hope everyone would enjoy it.

She had included in the message letting their usual suspects know about the time change and location a note that it might be fun to dress up a bit (she herself was wearing her newest dress, but that wasn't mandatory. Probably. Look, you had all met Lydia, right?

Welcome to Supper--er, Afternoon Tea Club, everyone!

Lydia was positive she had heard Arden talk about 'barbecue' before, and so she was sure that the restaurant she had chosen for tonight's supper club would be delicious, even if she was once more not sure what she was getting herself into. Perhaps she ought to have consulted her friend, but she had spent the weekend as a ninny and apparently Arden had been some trees, so: extenuating circumstances?

She did hope no one was in the mood for vegetables, as they seemed rather few and far between.

Lydia had to admit she had rather hoped the bags would not follow once they left the island, and thus had been rather excited to set out for this week's Supper Club destination. She might even have been *gasp* unfashionably early.

Unfortunately, here she was outside a ramen shop, surrounded by a pile of trunks and reticules and such with things like WICKED and VAIN and SILLY printed all over them. She didn't know why the bags were just declaring all her traits to the world, but it was rather awkward, practically speaking.

At least she was going to get to try some Japanese food that was cooked, this week. She still wasn't onboard with sushi, it seemed.

Lydia knew where the Levant was, more or less, so she felt like she was better prepared for this week's choice for supper club than some, even though 'being able to more or less find Lebanon on a globe' didn't translate to knowing anything about its food. That was the point of this whole endeavor!

She did miss the cat cafe, though. They were definitely going to have to do that again sometime.

She had sent missives to the usual suspects, although she did worry that any newcomers who might wish to join them wouldn't be able to find them in Baltimore. At any rate, she was here and it smelled fantastic.

Did Lydia know where Laos was, or anything about its food? Not at all! But the photos on the website of Charming Elephant looked delightful, and wasn't that what really mattered? Cute photos of your food for social media?

Hopefully someone in the Supper Club would know something about Laos. Maybe. With this bunch the odds were not strong.

Lydia had been given an idea by her conversation with Miss Skywalker about her lightsaber a few weeks ago (and had a rather mistaken idea of what a lightsaber was), but it had taken a few weeks to set up. All the usual members of the Supper Club should have received a message from her early in the week letting them know the particulars of this week's destination: a cat cafe in Washington, DC.

Did the food and drink on offer particularly count as 'supper?' Who cared! There were adorable cats to befriend! Welcome to Supper Club, everyone!
