It'd been long enough that it took Rey a minute upon arriving to say, "We've been here, right?"

It was not a complaint.

"We have," Lydia confirmed. "I must admit I didn't realize, but--well, it's all Greek to me." Badum-tish.

From:

Rey had heard the phrase. She wasn't entirely sure what it actually meant, but she recognized the joke and smiled. "I do remember liking it, too. And now I get to try something new on the menu."

"Exactly!" Lydia agreed. "It's not as if we could try the entire menu at one go." They weren't Youtubers out to waste a ton of food.

From:

"We need many goes," Rey said with a nod. "How have you been?"

From:

"Well enough," Lydia said, which was short for 'almost recovered from the earful she'd gotten from Boston about Adrian's impulsive attempt to unalive himself, as if she'd had anything to do with it at all.' "I'm trying to get started on my Christmas shopping. I need things that could plausibly come from my home time, so it's a bit tricky. Last year I made everything myself, but this year I want to spare my family my sewing skills."

"I suppose it's unhelpful to ask what things come from your home time," Rey said, considering it. "My only knowledge like that is from the 1700s."

"Oooh, Greece," Henry said, perking up. "I know that one! From home, even. ... No idea what the food is like, but if they were so important, it must be tasty, right?"

From:

"It's very good!" Lydia assured him. "Nothing like we have in England, of course." He wasn't from England, but the same principle still applied.

From:

... Did it though? Bohemia was closer.

"What do you have in England?" Henry wondered. "Besides fish, I mean. Does it involve sausage, perhaps?"

Henry's first mistake was assuming Lydia had even the slightest grasp of geography.

"It's heartier. We roast things a lot," Lydia told him. "French cuisine is very en vogue, even though we are so often at war with France."

Henry nodded along, as if it was perfectly normal to have cuisine from some random other country in your life.

"And what's French cuisine like?"

From:

"It's amazing," Rey told him. "Everything I've had of it has been good."

She was very easy to please, but she was also right.

From:

"What's your favorites?" Henry asked.

From:

"I had the mousaka last time and loved it," she answered. "But I like a lot of the appetizers. The spinach pies are good."

From:

"I do love a good pie," Henry mused, rubbing his chin. "Thank you, I'm going to give those a try for sure." He looked at her and smiled. "How have you been?"

From:

"It's been quite the week but I'm doing all right." Because no one was dead. "You? Good week?"

From:

"Uneventful, but I suppose that's not too bad. Rode Pebbles around the island for a bit, that was the most exciting part of it," Henry mused. "... What happened, then?"
