Lydia assumed that Irish food was probably quite like English food, although perhaps with more potatoes, but who knew how that might have changed in the last two hundred years? Better to find out for oneself!

Thus, she had let the Supper Club attendees know to join her at Slainte Irish Pub & Restaurant on Thursday evening, and was now here herself, waiting for the others and wondering how on Earth one pronounced 'Slainte.'

At least Henry was now used enough to all the noise outside to survive that!

And then--

"Well, this looks cosy," he said, appreciatively.

"Yes, it's quite nice, isn't it?" Lydia asked.

Old-fashioned. Like them.

Excuse you, they were very modern for their times.

"Like a place where you can get a decent pint and a hearty meal," Henry agreed. "How'd you find it?"

"There are places on the internet with lists of restaurants," Lydia explained, "and every time we're going into Baltimore I try to pick one that's not something we've done before...and hopefully isn't too expensive. Some of them can be quite dear, and while that's always fun not everyone wants to have to dress up!" Or spend all that money, yes, yes, finances, how did they work? Don't ask Lydia!

"I wouldn't even know how to dress up 'round here," Henry admitted. "I've almost no money. I do have many of those short tunics from the summer, however."

He meant Anakin's novelty t-shirts.

"I'm afraid those don't count as formal dress," Lydia massively understated the matter.

"What would formal dress even be 'round here?" Henry wondered. "Those tunics... they're very colourful!"

"A tuxedo, for men, I believe. They're black. Men seem to have decided to dislike color." Lydia could not imagine why. "Ladies still wear gowns, although they're rather...different."

"What's a tuxedo?" Henry asked, predictably. "And different how?"

The lack of colour hadn't sunk in yet but it was really going to confuse him.

Rey absolutely did not know how to say it.

"I don't think we've had this kind of food before," she said, sounding pretty pleased about that.

"I don't know half the words on this," said Henry, of the menu, which he had only managed to read about a quarter of. "But something about it feels very normal. There's boiled things with sausage and cheese!"

"Are boiled things with sausage and cheese typical where you come from?" she asked.

"Very," Henry said, nodding enthusiastically. "And stew, and cabbage... this is the first tavern I've been here that serves the sort of food I know from home, I reckon."

"It's about time you get something normal," Rey said with a smile.

"I can't say I'm very upset about Lydia's choice tonight," Henry agreed, grinning. "How do you feel about it? You said it's unfamiliar?"

Rey made a so-so gesture. "We haven't done Irish food before. And I know a lot of things on the menu but haven't tried them. I've heard about fish and chips a lot but never had it."

"Ah, that's one I don't know either," Henry offered. "I mean. I've heard of fish. But chips are the things in the crinkly bags, aren't they?"

"I'm pretty sure. And it sounds pretty basic-" Look who was turning into a food snob over here. "-but if people talk that much about it, it has to be good, right?"

"Aye, they wouldn't talk up something that tasted like arse," Henry agreed. "... Unless they hoped to prank us, I suppose."

"The scale would actually be impressive for a prank," Rey mused.

"Probably best to assume it isn't one," Henry agreed. He paused. "...Though the local folk are very connected through that internet thing, aren't they? That might make it easier. Hm..."

Henry. Don't overthink it.

"Might be worth a google only if you're very bored," Rey smiled.

"Oh, I haven't touched any of that yet," Henry clarified. It still hurt looking at screens for more than a minute. "But I've heard stories!"

"At all?" Rey asked. "Do you have a phone?"

"One of those shiny brick things?" Henry asked. "No."

He wouldn't know what to do with one.

"It's a bit like English food, I think," Lydia said. "Although it's changed somewhat, of course, in the intervening centuries, and Ireland is a whole separate island and all."

"I don't know much about the area," Rey admitted. Ignore her accent. "So you get to try something both old and new?"

"Hopefully!" Lydia agreed. "And everything does look quite good."

"Any favorites?" Rey asked. "I will always take a recommendation."

"Good evening, everyone," Flint said. He'd safely navigated across a street while following the glowing man on the sign! He had not stabbed a single car! Character growth! "This smells normal."

There had to be a better way to say that, Flint.

"Normal," Rey repeated, amused.

"Yes," Flint said, smiling back. "Like a pub. Not like Silver's cooking."

"It's not cooking as much as food poisoning, in that case," she said. "So this is the kind of place you had then?"

"This is cleaner and better lit," Flint said, "but in general, yes."

"I've always been a little curious about what it's like down there," Rey admitted. "I've heard some things."

Flint laughed. "Have you? What sort of things?"

"Mostly the people of Nassau," she said. "Some places John had been, things like that. And one planet we spent a lot of time on apparently reminded him of the weather."

"Was it hotter than Hell there?" Flint asked.

"Warm and very humid."

His poor hair.

Flint laughed. "Sounds like Nassau."

"It seems normal," Henry offered brightly.

"It does," Flint said, smiling. "I could enjoy stew tonight."

Well. "Enjoy" and "stew" generally didn't go together, but the thought was there.

"Haven't had a good stew in ages, feels like," Henry sighed.

"I make stew, but it isn't good," Flint said.

"Can't say I'm a marvel in the kitchen meself," Henry admitted. "I can skin and dress a hare and put it over a fire, but that's the extent of it."

The seafood gumbo is probably not traditionally Irish, but who knows?
