Charming Elephant, Baltimore, Maryland, Thursday Evening

Did Lydia know where Laos was, or anything about its food? Not at all! But the photos on the website of Charming Elephant looked delightful, and wasn't that what really mattered? Cute photos of your food for social media?

Hopefully someone in the Supper Club would know something about Laos. Maybe. With this bunch the odds were not strong.

Hopefully there's not a prophecy about supper? But who knows? It's Fandom!

Graham was in a bit of a pickle. Well, not literally. That would be...weird (but delicious!). But he should have figured his last Thursday before Graduation would be an Open Mic night, leaving him to have to struggle to choose between that or dropping in one more time on the Supper Club!

He was pretty sure Charlie and Stewart would understand that he could easily arrange to hit up more Open Mics. And he'd been to more, too! And the place was called Charming Elephant???

Charlie and Stewart would definitely understand!

And so he was here this time, already eagerly pursuing the menu and trying to decide between way too many options.

Ignis' knowledge of a particular area's culinary offering were dependant on three main factors: whether he'd been there, if it produced coffee, and if it produced wine. And, considering Laos had an incredibly robust coffee industry known for quality....well...

He would certainly be prepared for question.

He was always prepared, of course.

Although he might like some coffee first.

Remember last week when Rey knew exactly what she wanted? Yeah, that didn't last. But at least she had some idea of the type of food right now, which would make things easier.

She was here, she was in a good mood, she was pondering cheesy pad Thai.

You couldn't miss the Charming Elephant. It was just fact. "Sir Graham, welcome!" Lydia cried when she saw him.

At least someone knew something. That was an improvement on some of their previous supper clubs. "Professor Scientia, I'm so pleased you could join us, sir," Lydia greeted him.

"Miss Skywalker," Lydia greeted her with a little curtsey. "Are you familiar with the nation of Laos?" Lydia had learned enough that she wasn't pronouncing it like it rhymed with 'chaos,' but that was about it.

Graham was, however, about to be terribly disappointed to learn that there was no actual Charming Elephant employed at the establishment, alas.

But for now, he was all smiles as he lifted his cap and met Lydia with a cloak-sweeping bow. "Good evening, Miss Bennet! And thank you! Glad I was able to make it."

His grin grew even more once his cap was fitted back into place.

"And how are you? Looking forward to yet another excellent supper?"

"I know it's in Asia. But I don't know much more than that," Rey said. "Sometimes I feel like I should do more grography research."

"Looking at anything in particular?" Rey asked.

"You mean besides the Charming Elephant themselves?" asked Graham, brows lifted as he settled back down on his heels after straining to see further into the restaurant to try to spot the creature. Maybe you didn't get to meet them until after you ordered? He supposed he'd find out!

But he shifted that out of his brain and smiled at Rey. "Definitely the Pad Kapow!"

Of course, he said it with all the emphasis it deserved.

"I gotta try something with a name like that! How about you? What's looking good to you?"

"Believe me, Miss Bennet," Ignis drawled with a faintly amused huff, considering the reasons for missing a few of the last ones, "as am I. But thank you, as always. How are you this evening?"

The place being run by charming elephants would have been an improvement, although probably they would have needed a larger building. Perhaps they could be miniature elephants, which would account for why they were so charming.

"I certainly hope so! I must confess no familiarity with the nation of Laos, although some of the items on the menu look somewhat familiar." Let's hear it for regional similarities. "And yourself, sir?"

Lydia's terrible memory mostly had filed that away as 'something about Ms. Vess's ex on a plane,' which did, in and of itself, sound pretty terrible. "I am quite well, sir, and looking forward to the summer. Have you any particular plans?"

"Yes, some of the items on the menu looked somewhat familiar," Lydia agreed. She laughed merrily. "I'm hopeless at geography, but I do remember food, it seems."

Yes, there had been a plane-devouring entity with a habit of descending people into madness and their worst fears, and Ignis had nearly died several times, but Miss Vess's ex truly was the worst part of it all, so, yes. Miserable, really.

"I...do," he responded, with a bit of a cautious edge, since those plans involved things he was not so readily discussing in the open quite yet. "Unfortunately, though, it won't be teaching. With everything that happened over the past month, I'll be rather engaged back on Innistrad, helping to do what I can with the reconstruction efforts. The plane is in a bit of chaos at this moment, and no surprise there. It was, after all, almost devoured..."

Nice, normal supper conversational topics, truly.

"You do! had pad Thai before, but never a cheesy version, so I might have to try it," she said. "I haven't seen it anywhere else so it may not be common."

"For very good reason," Rey smiled. "I always think I need to learn more when I hardly know my own galaxy."

Also at some point your brain reached learning capacity and then you fall down and go to sleep. Proven fact.

"And how are you this week?" Rey greeted him.

Was Flint half-expecting this establishment to be staffed by charming elephants? Yes. Look, the kitty cafe had been eye-opening and all bets had been off after the place on the island with the talking, dancing silverware.

"Good evening, everyone."

"It is very noble of you to render aid, sir," Lydia said, her attention honestly wandering off as he spoke. 'Reconstruction' sounded dreadfully dull, so better you than her, Ignis!

Wait. Her attention had wandered back in. "However could a plane be devoured? Isn't it quite large?" Miss Vess had certainly made it sound so.

Lydia could confirm! "I often wonder how different this world is from how my world will be in this time," Lydia admitted, "and how much use any of this will be, when I go home. But for now it is the world I live in, so...I might as well get to know it!"

They were all very disappointed by the false advertising regarding the elephants, it was true. "Captain Flint, good evening!" Lydia greeted him with a curtsy. "How have you been, sir? Selling many books?" Hopefully not. That would make him sad.
