Charming Elephant, Baltimore, Maryland, Thursday Evening

Did Lydia know where Laos was, or anything about its food? Not at all! But the photos on the website of Charming Elephant looked delightful, and wasn't that what really mattered? Cute photos of your food for social media?

Hopefully someone in the Supper Club would know something about Laos. Maybe. With this bunch the odds were not strong.

"Hello," Rey smiled. "How was getting here?"

She worried.

"I am not," Flint said, looking cheerful. "The beach reads are terrible, by the way."

"I've had to go back to somewhere that didn't have these things. It's an adjustment," she admitted. "But then you also take a suitcase full of the things you like to make better."

"Miss Skywalker," Ignis greeted her with a nod. "Quite well, thank you. And yourself? Looking forward to this week's cuisine?"

"I did not draw my sword," Flint said proudly.

Don't ask about the pistol.

To be quite fair to Lydia, Ignis was leaving out the whole 'cavorting with and winning favor of vampires' part, which had the chance of being considerably more interesting.

"Quite," he confirmed, "as was the entity Emrakul. Granted, it was not larger than the plane itself, of course, but I imagine there was some sort of internal void sort of situation going on..."

Somewhere back on the island, Eleanor Zarrin felt her ears burning and couldn't explain why.

"...or it could also likely grow in size as it did with power the more it consumed, until it was indeed large enough to overtake everything with ease."

"Always. I haven't had anything I didn't like so far." Her standards were admittedly trash so anything would be good. "Do you know this one well?"

Lydia was now imagining something like a very large dragon, because of reasons, and Ignis might notice that she sounded a bit faint when she said, "How hideous," before rallying and saying, "and how fortunate that it was able to be...defeated?" Or whatever had happened, she really wasn't sure, but they hadn't been devoured so that was probably good.

"Good for you." Don't volunteer information about the pistol. "How are you tonight, then?"

"I imagine I shall have a trunkful of chocolate when I return home," Lydia admitted. "It is a shame I won't be able to take TikTok with me, but we haven't any electricity yet, you see. I'm not sure when that will get started."

"I suspected they would be," Lydia, who would probably actually enjoy the beach reads but was imagining reading them on a beach, said. "But I'm sure there's a reader out there for them!"

"Oh," said Graham, "I'm alright."

Which was a much less enthusiastic answer than one might expect from him, really. There was still a smile on his face, big and bright, but he blinked in a way that might betray him to a keen observer who knew him well.

"Graduation's this weekend! So I'll be heading back to my nightly duties again soon! It's been nice to come back and finish up school, but Daventry and adventure awaits! So I'm really glad to get through chance to drop in on one more Supper Club, but if I find myself with a free Thursday, I might try to drop in again!"

"Oh, yes, of course," Lydia agreed. "Graduation." She had quite forgotten about that and did rather hope none of her other friends were graduating. "You shall always be welcome at Supper Club, of course, sir! I must confess I do not know what duties a knight may have in your realm. Sir William Lucas's mostly seemed to consist of talking about when he was presented at St. James's and occasionally hosting assemblies."

"At a loss for what cuisine comes from Laos."

Which he was pronouncing like chaos.

"It is not me," Flint said. "Perhaps I will put them on sale!"

Groundbreaking thought for a book hoarder.

"All the more reason to give it a try!" Graham agreed with a confident nod. "I also tried to find something that might be fun to share with the cook in the barracks back home! I think the other knights and guards would get a kick out of it, and it'll be something pretty and different that they probably haven't seen before! Ooh, that reminds me, I should check out the desserts, too, and see if there's anything to tell Wente about! He's Daventry's baker, and really creative, and makes the biggest," his arms swept out wide around him to give Rey a good idea of just how big, "pastries you've ever seen!"

"Impressive," she said, smiling. "I know the mango sticky rice is good, but it's not a pastry. I think the roti might be, though?"

"You've never looked it up?" Rey asked.

She did not correct him, she did not know.

"I know it's different from coy try to country, but they have similar things to other restaurants we've been to," she told him. "Which should be helpful for everyone."

"Captain Flint," Ignis said, offering a nod in his direction. "Always a pleasure. How has your week been treating you?"

"As with most of the places I haven't been quite yet," Ignis answered, "I know a fair amount more about its coffee than its food, but I understand it shares quite a bit in common with its southern neighbor of Thailand, which I've been exposed to a bit more. Distinctly different on its own accord, with many shared flavors and concepts, and a particular fondness for sticky rice, incidentally."

"Through a bit of powerful mind magic," Ignis noted, "I was actually able to see this creature, and I can confirm that hideous is a very apt description. However, defeated, unfortunately, is not. Contained would be more appropriate, although once we realized that was the way to finally...well, defeat now seems a bit optimistic, so we'll say prevent her from entirely destroying Innistrad...I had inconveniently turned into a carbuncle and Liliana was also a bit indisposed, so everything after that moment, is all from hearsay from the others who were involved."

"Oh, well," Graham seemed more than happy to explain and break it down for Lydia, "I'm still a junior knight, you see, so that means I split my time between guard duty and proper quests, although they're only the local ones so far. Eventually, when I've earned my title a little more, then I might be given quests that venture out into the surrounding areas, maybe even further! Usually, they stick me on either moat duty, or wellness checks, and that's pretty much going around the kingdom to check in with everyone and see how they're doing, making sure none of the gnomes or leprechauns or bridge trolls are giving them any trouble. Oh! And fetching the goat when he gets out of his pen, which happens a lot actually!"

"I'll have to check out the roti, then!" Graham decided. "And then see about getting Wente to make some, but really big! I bet he could do something good with mango sticky rice, too, although I'd probably need to bring him some mangos. We don't have those in Daventry."

"Like noodles and chicken?" Flint asked hopefully.
